Week Four - Sept 25-29


 Orange T-shirt Day is on Friday, September 30. We remember and pay tribute to the thousands of residential school survivors over the last century. We are committed to Reconciliation, education and building a just and equitable future together. 
Wear an orange shirt in respect.

In Class this week....

Math: We will begin a review of addition and subtraction with regrouping this week. See these videos for review if needed. We will continue with having a quiz on Friday.

English: We will continue a responsive journal to our class novel Wonder
by R.J. Palacio. Students need to choose a novel for an independent book report by Friday. We will visit the library this week!!

Socials: Students are asked to continue to bring in headlines from the news and from different continents. As we build an awareness of global issues and players and the role the media plays, students are also working together on fundraising projects. 

Science: We will begin our first unit on the NERVOUS SYSTEM. As we share our background knowledge about the brain and nerves, we form guiding questions, and will learn some key definitions.  

French: Students have been asked to draw faces expressing 6 different responses to the question: "Comment ça va?" Students have a vocabulary sheet to guide them. They need to write their sentences in French. A rough copy is due Monday !

PESoccer Lessons 4 and 5 on Tuesday and Friday. Students need to change into gym clothes! We will be practicing offensive and defensive tactics in small groups in preparation for games next week.

Our Division has had some changes with the class configuration and we are sad to have Emilio, Lilyana, River and Karson leave us to join a new Grade 6/7 class. We are also gaining a new student, Darrian and welcoming back Chuck.  

It was a great day at the Beach this Friday and I'm looking forward to the last week in September.

Week Three

Its's an action-packed week!

Monday: First ProD of the year. Next ProD is Oct 20th. 

Tuesday: ****PE strip needed**** 
Fire Drill at 9:30. 

Student Leadership meeting at 12:00 noon in Ms. Abell's room. 2 students from each class are welcome to attend! Leadership helps organize events, assemblies, dances and present student ideas to Journey staff.

Wednesday: ****Library Visit today***

Thursday: **** Quick Math Quiz****

Preview and discussion of Exploratory Options. 

Fox Fest in the morning is  in support of Terry Fox Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. Games, food and fun for 2 hours after recess. Bring loonies and twonies to help us reach our fundraising goal of $1000.  Leadership students have organized some of this fun event!

Terry Fox Run in the afternoon. Run, Walk or jog 3 km.

Friday: GRADE SIX BEACH DAY!!!
Thank you for contributing to our field trip fund! 

We are bussing to French Beach. Dress for the weather. Bring food, towel to sit on, beach and walking shoes, beach toys, extra clothes. The walk to the beach is about 15 minutes through the forest and everything must be carried by students.

Week Two: Beginnings

Week Two: Beginnings

Welcome to the rain!

Reminders:

Information Forms need to be filled out and returned to school as quickly as possible.
Please send in your contact information.

Permission forms for field trips and the use of Google and the Internet are needed for activities this month. 


We have PE outside on Tuesdays and Fridays. 
Students will need an extra set of shoes and gym clothes, especially in wet weather!

School Supplies  are needed this week.

We will begin work in English, French, Math and Social Studies. 
Week One - Welcome!

We have an awesome group and are off to a great start. 

The week has been a chance for students to be oriented to the routines, expectations and rules of the classroom as well as to get to know each other. 

Assignments this week: Some in class writing, art and math assignments have given me a good look at where students' strengths and challenges lie. We will continue with this work in Week Two.

Events: We wrapped up the week with a school Barbeque (thanks to our fabulous PAC) and a student led assembly. 

Update: Our neighbourhood, Narnia is leading the pack with excitement and setting the standard high for school spirit and responsibility. As a neighbourhood, we have won the conveted Golden Dustpan. Keeping our neighbourhood clean sets us up for a great year.
